Creative Spotlight: Jessica Augarde Photography

Jessica Augarde Photography
Bristol, UK

A fantastic photographer who's work takes a whole new look at the world around her with vivid and wonderful, purely breath taking images. We caught up with her for a few questions about her photography.

Is there anyone in your life who inspires your work?

I work with so many creative people on photoshoots, it’s difficult not to be inspired! I particularly enjoy working with my sister Poppy Augarde, who often models for me, and we can always come up with exciting concepts for shoots together – we have several in the works currently!

If you could be invisible for a day with your camera, where would you go, what would you do?

I would photograph Johnny Depp, because he is a beautiful human being!

Describe your photography style in 5 words?

Fantastical, bold, Feminine, elegant, vibrant.

What’s the worst thing that has ever happened on a shoot?

While shooting model Sky Valentine in a deserted field, we left my mum’s antique piano chair, which we had brought along as a prop, briefly unattended. We returned a few minutes later only to find pieces of the chair, it had been smashed to bits – my mum was not impressed!

How do you feel about all the controversy with high gloss fashion magazines photoshoping their models waistlines?

I’m in two minds on the matter. I’m very much in favour of healthy models, plus sized or skinny, and portraying them in a realistic manner is great. However as an artist I understand the photographers wanting an image to look its very best, and smoothing out any imperfections or lumps and bumps. I feel it also important for magazine readers to understand that these models do not always look the way they are photographed in real life.
